Field Conditions Heartwell Fields are open as of 10/15 Common questions Who closes the fields? When will we know? What if the sun comes out and the fields look good? Are the games re-scheduled? Who Decides the fields are Open or Closed The City of Long Beach Parks Department has total control on our fields, Our permits are based on us abiding by that control. We as AYSO have NO control if the fields are closed. When we know you will know. In the past the Parks Department notifies all the sports organizations by a mudline phone number. It is typically updated around 7:00am What if the sun comes out and the fields seem fine? Since the city has total control once they close them, based on past incidents, they usually do not reopen them. The reasons are based on safety for the public and damage to the fields. If teh city closes on feild they have usually closed all the fields. The city staff is not equiped to access each field for individual closures. Are the games re-scheduled? Typically games that are regular season are not rescheduled. The due to the 70+ games, referees, field availability, participants availability, the scheduling is extremely difficult. During Commissioners Cup there have been efforts made to do make up games but each division is looked at on an individual basis.
